The Magnificent Mantra, The Four Directions and the Spring Equinox

In March 2025, at the Convergence 2025 international vibrational astrology conference held in Orlando, Florida, I taught a moving meditation for the Spring Equinox. The Aries ingress was just a few weeks away, and I wanted to share some experiential astrology by means of kundalini and other yoga technologies with my fellow astrologers.

Earlier in my kundalini yoga studies, I had been taught a moving mudra for the Magnificent Mantra which, as I practiced, I found to be more profound when standing up. I refined it a bit and then on the day of the Spring Equinox, some years ago, it came to me (I am sure as a nudge via my ancestral teachers) to face each of the four directions — north, south, east and west, while chanting the mantra. This creates a kriya that combines The Magnificent Mantra with a prayer pose mudra and aura-cleansing arm movements, honoring the perfect balance of light and dark, earth with the sun, during the Equinox months.

This modern EK-style kriya felt so right, as during the time of the solstice we are experiencing this perfect blessing of equality by the guardian of our system, the Sun. Now this morning prayer is like a cherished old friend.

The Eighth Vibration

As I continued to do the Magnificent Mantra kriya daily in the morning, I felt drawn to honor each direction twice.

In vibrational astrology, one’s eighth harmonic chart tells the story of how we operate and get things done in the outside world. Our personal O.S., so to speak. In contrast, and for example, the 7th vibrational chart shows our internal, very personal and private operating system. One that others may never know or understand.

Eight is part of the four family, which is the square in astrology. Squares are broadly interpreted as a tension in modern astrology, but it is a tension that results in action. Four is gut-motivated action.

Two, or the opposition in astrology, is often interpreted in modern astrology as inherent tension,
difficult to soften or resolve. In vibrational astrology we define vibe/harmonic Two as interacting outside of yourself. The focus is “over there.” So if you combine the core motivations of the two and four vibrations you can easily see how vibe eight (8) is defined as how you take action (4) out there (2) when it is not just all about you (7). You have to function in society at large.

So, this is a somewhat long-winded way of explaining how doing this kriya eight times makes so much sense. As I find over and over again in the way that my 8th harmonic functions, the intuition comes first and the grace comes afterwards. (Or should I say, logic, for you air signs, or practicality, for you earth signs reading this.)

About the Magnificent Mantra

What has come to be known as The Magnificent Mantra was channeled by the 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh. It is said that chanting the mantra eliminates karmic blocks and past errors, balances brain hemispheres, purifies the magnetic field, and brings compassion and patience.

Adding “har” four times before each phrase, is emphasising God-in-action. It invokes prosperity and happiness, and shields us from harm and dis-ease.

Yogic Practice as Experiential Astrology

I invite you to discover the practical magic inherent in embodying your personal and mundane astrology with a meditation and yoga practice.

As astrologers, we can study the charts and characteristics arising from the Aries ingress in any particular year. As yogis, we can practice during the time of the Equinox with an understanding of the time of the season.

A mindful combining of the two, timing astrological events and elections with meditations, movements, and kriyas lets the planetary energies resonate inside ourselves and brings them down to earth.  That is divine!

Furthermore, vibrational astrology reveals the delicate and mighty resonances taking place at those critical ingresses and elections, acting as our guide to understanding and aligning with the energies of the time.
